Education for Adults
St. Paul is committed to helping adults grow spiritually by providing sophisticated learning opportunities that challenge participants to ask questions, think, doubt, struggle, discover and claim a deepening relationship with God. St. Paul encourages free inquiry, believing that it is only through our curiosity and willingness to ponder new information that we can hear God speaking words of new life through the ancient scriptures.
Adult Education opportunities at St. Paul are designed to help persons develop their own personal theology –no one at St. Paul will ever require that participants must adhere to a creed or prescribed doctrine. Rather, all adult education classes are created with the intent that participants will find a safe place to explore and challenge previously held beliefs.
Animate Faith theological study is a seven-week class designed to deepen the faith of participants by discussing topics like “Is God real?”, to “What is salvation?”, and whatever else the group brings to the table. Classes meet on Mondays, 7-9 pm, in the Orange Room of the Education Wing.
Disciple Bible Study is a 32 week long-term class that is an in-depth examination of scripture. Through weekly class meetings and readings, the participant will be exposed to the techniques of biblical criticism, biblical history and the latest scholarly interpretations of the scriptures. Lessons are taught using lecture, small group discussion, art and other multi-intelligence techniques.
TED Talks Discussions are seasonal opportunities to view a 15-minute TED Talk and then spend an hour discussing the ideas the talk generates. TED is a nonprofit group that brings together leaders from the technology, entertainment and design industries, as well as the humanities.
Book Studies are seasonal groups typically meeting in Advent, Lent, and the summer months. Groups are usually held at St. Paul before or after Worship service, and sometimes mid-week to discuss a book relevant to the season.
REEL People is a movie group that meets one Friday evening per month in the home of a member. Participants watch the movie in advance, bring a snack, drink, or appetizer, and come prepared to have a thought-provoking and fun discussion of the movie as it relates to Biblical principles.
