Community Renewal Society

At the beginning of 2021, the Equity and Inclusion ministry was created at St. Paul UCC. The ministry is currently focused on LGBTQ education and rights as we continue to make progress in supporting our open and affirming mission. We are also focused on a variety of other opportunities that will allow St. Paul to have an equity impact in the Western suburbs of Chicago.

We also believe that partnerships are important as we are a small faith community, and if others are out in front of an issue we care about, combining forces is a good use of our resources.

Our St. Paul UCC membership in the Community Renewal Society (CRS) is one of those partnerships. We invite you to check out the website, mission, vision and activities at https://www.communityrenewalsociety.org/.

This is not St. Paul’s first time partnering with CRS. We have been a past member and we can now once again access many educational resources, speakers and information about our areas of interest with the Social Justice and Witness team.

We look forward to our continued partnership with the Community Renewal Society in 2024 as the Equity and Inclusion ministry focuses on sharing actions and solutions with our congregation on addressing injustices in our western suburban community.

Equity and Inclusion at St. Paul United Church of Christ

There are times when you might hear the term Social Justice used in the media and wonder, “what is that all about and what does it mean?”

  • The definition of social justice, for St. Paul United Church of Christ, is working to follow the Christian tradition of creating spaces where people are accepted just as they are – beloved children of God, with no discrimination or inequality.

For the last few years, a group of St. Paul folks have participated in reading books and reviewing TED talks that address injustices enacted in our world, such as racism, poverty, educational injustices, environmental injustices, and injustices in the criminal justice system. Some in the group felt that reading about injustices should propel us to take practical action and the group received Council approval to form the St. Paul Justice and Witness team, under the umbrella of the larger Community Care Ministry, in January of 2021. We have recently revised the name of the ministry to Equity and Inclusion.

The St. Paul Equity and Inclusion team meets monthly on the first Thursday night of the month. As a group of individuals passionate about social justice, our goal is to work together to bring about a more just world for everyone. This work includes, but is not limited to, changing laws, policy, and practices across the globe, nationally, in IL, and in our church and local communities that create and/or perpetuate  injustice. And this work allows us to begin the process of bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth where Jesus clearly states our greatest commandment - love your neighbor as yourselves. Because, “There is neither Jew or Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28

We welcome ALL! And we welcome ALL of your thoughts and ideas passions!! Let’s Praise God and his all inclusive Kingdom.
